We don’t add ingredients so a label looks impressive. These are the ones doing the work, arranged in the order they work — water first, then the actives, then the plants, then the lipids that stop it all evaporating by lunchtime.

Water in, and water held. Everything above this tier works better once it is right — which is why two of our four formulas are built around it rather than merely containing it.

Holds up to 500 times its weight in water, drawing it into the skin at several levels rather than sitting on top of it. The closest thing we have to a house ingredient.

Sodium hyaluronate

Not one molecule but several, at different weights, so hydration reaches past the surface rather than pooling on it.

Fermented natto derivative
ポリグルタミン酸
A moisture binder that works alongside hyaluronic acid rather than instead of it — holding water at the surface for longer. Derived from fermented soy, which is about as Japanese as an ingredient gets.

The least glamorous ingredient on this page and one of the most reliable. It pulls moisture into skin and keeps it at a level that feels normal rather than coated.

The long-game ingredient. Peptides support the look of firmness over months rather than overnight — which is why they sit in the eye cream, where the skin is thinnest and the evidence strongest.

Several unglamorous jobs at once: the look of pores, uneven tone, and barrier support. One of the few actives with evidence deep enough to be boring.

A small amount, in the cleanser only. Enough to keep pores clear over time, not enough to leave skin stripped and squeaking — which is the mistake most acids in cleansers make.
